Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) that stimulates the pituitary gland to produce and release endogenous growth hormone in a physiologically pulsatile manner — unlike direct GH administration.
Its mechanism preserves the natural feedback loop of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, making it a subject of significant interest in research examining body composition, visceral adiposity, and IGF-1 modulation without the supraphysiological spikes associated with exogenous GH.
Originally developed and approved for HIV-associated lipodystrophy, tesamorelin continues to be studied for its broader applications in metabolic research, cognitive function, and age-related changes in GH secretion.
